Teez Cafe at Tarraleah offers visitors great coffee, beautiful home made cakes and fresh cuisine using locally produced gourmet products. Stop in on your way to Strahan or Lake St Clair and enjoy a great lunch.

Wildside Restaurant

Wildside Restaurant at Tarraleah offers visitors a gourmet treat. With our famous wall of wine, changing menus and experienced chefs, Wildside is a restaurant worth travelling to. For our lucky visitors to Tarraleah Wildside is only a short walk away from your cottage accomodation. The view is spectacular!

The Highlander Arms

Experience a true country style pub in the heart of the highlands! The Highlander Arms is a friendly pub with great food and friendly people. Have a chat to the locals - they'll be able to tell you stories about the highlands that will make your hair curl!

Self Contained Facilities

Tarraleah Cottages all come with their own very well equipped (and large) kitchens. You can purchase a cooking pack from reception or get away for a gourmet weekend with friends and cook up your own storm (bring your own ingredients). Book one of our breadmakers and we'll give you a complimentary bread pack so you can wake up to the smell of freshly baked bread.

Tarraleah Activities

Tarraleah offer a range of activities for visitors. Try fly fishing or kayaking. Enjoy the downhill cycle tour or just amble around the village on the guided tour and find out the history of the village. We also have an evening wildlife tour where you may be lucky enough to see devils, possums or owls!

Activities for the Kids

Theres plenty of room for kids to play at Tarraleah. We have squash, table tennis, boules, soccer balls (and lots of room to practice big kicks). Try fly fishing, visit the orphan animals or help feed the highland cows.

Helicopter Tours

Stay at Tarraleah Cottage bed and breakfast accomodation and book in to one of our great helicopter tours. We can take you over the east coast, above Tasman Peninsula, give you the best view of Lake St Clair and Cradle Mountain or take you to the best (and most secret) fishing spots. With Tarraleah Helicopter tours you are 20 minutes to anywhere in Tassie!

Wildlife at Tarraleah

When you stay at Tarraleah Cottages you are sure to see the local wildlife. Possums, Wallabies and Devils all live in the surrounding area. Look for them around sunset when they come into the open to feed. If you want to really experience the highland wildlife, book in the Wildlife tour and learn all about the Tasmanian fauna.

Fishing in the Highlands

Tarraleah is surrounded by Highland Lakes - all filled with trout and salmon. Try your hand at fly fishing or get a helicopter tour to the most pristine areas of Tasmania that are normally not accessible. Tarraleah has a number of experienced fishing guides who can give you the secrets to catching great fish in the highland lakes.

Day Trips from Tarraleah

Tarraleah is close to a number of great tourist destinations. Why not stay in the cottages for a few days and take some time to experience the highlands. Visit Russell Falls, Lake St Clair or Cradle Mountain and be back in time for dinner.

Guided Tours from Tarraleah

When you stay at the Cottages be sure to book in for one of our guided tours. Our guide is the last person to have seen a living Tasmanian Tiger. Hans has a great many stories to tell about life in the highlands and the history of Tarraleah.

History of Tarraleah

Tarraleah Village has a history that goes back nearly 80 years. Book into our guided tours and find out about the history of the area and how people lived and worked in the village in the 1940's.

Hydro Electricity

When you stay in the cottages at Tarraleah make sure you visit the Hydro pipes viewing station next to Wildside Restaurant. Its a spectacular view. You can also book into the guided tours and find out more about the history of the Tarraleah hydro village.

The Highland Cows

Fergus and family are our local highland cows. You can book in to help feed the cows daily. They are a unique breed, originiating in the Scottish Highlands they have been bought to Tasmania to help keep the grass down but can also survive happily in our sometimes snowy winters.
